On October 8, 2019 Carol M. Highsmith graced the Williamson County Historical Society Museum. As a renowned photographer she has been donating her images to the Library of Congress since 1992.
Her series of images called, Carol M. Highsmith’s America, contains images across America documenting our history while it is still around.
Everyday our history is erased, a building burns, is torn down or a tornado destroys it, a quilt that took a year to make is thrown out, old papers or photographs of ancestors with no name on them do not mean anything to descendants are burned. Or some people just do not care for “old stuff”. This is where museums and people like Carol come into play in preserving, if not the actual item, at least in a photograph.
Her images are now added to The Library of Congress website, if you are interested in seeing them you can log on to https://www.loc.gov/photos ,use the search box on the top right to enter, Williamson County Illinois then on the left side menu under, Part Of, click on Highsmith to see the images at the museum and others around the area.
